Day THREE (11 June 2009)

Welcome back, welcome back! As you know, DAY THREE is the MOST IMPORTANT DAY! It's the BARBECUE DAY (night)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were supposed to wake at 8am, BUT, the occupants of the females dorm slept RIGHT TROUGH and STRAIGHT TILL 8.30am! Piggies! Ha Ha. Of course, Mr Wong has his own way of handling this..... He grabbed a random Er Hu from the hall, stood at the door of the females dorm and played 良宵 till everyone in the room woke up. Ha Ha. Next time if your siblings don't wake up on time you can do this to them too =D

We had an orchestra practise straight after everyone woke up! After the practise, it was SOCKS WAR! Don't worry, we were told to bring extra socks, so the socks used were not smelly and sweaty..... Hmm..... Other than socks, the game masters added "items" like beach balls. A sock is worth 1 points, and a ball is worth.. I think 15 points? Anyway the team with the least points will win, so both teams got sweaty running around the place, picking up socks(and balls) in their territory and throwing them to the opposite team. However, some people decided to pick up all the socks and "one-shot" throw to the other team during the last few seconds. Sad (or happy) to say, that's not allowed. Ha Ha.

After the Socks War, we played a game which requires the groups to measure lengths of objects using MENTOS STRIPS! Example: Miin Wei (difficult "object". Ha Ha.), Mr Wong's car, Erhu's bow, Shao zi protector, area of whiteboard, height of table, length of clothes line (the paper said pole though! Mistake, mistake!), length of double bass, perimeter of the round basketball court and etc etc etc etc! In the end, some groups used the erhu bow as a "measuring tape" and some used rafia strings. Some even thought of using clothes! Ha Ha.

We were given time to cool down while waiting for the BBQ guests(parents of our members =D) to arrive, so some of us went to shower, and some (who were still feeling energetic) decided to play basketball! Oh, Housefly tried shooting the ball into the hoop backwards, and THE BALL ACTUALLY WENT IN! Tyco! Ha Ha.

After this, we rehearsed our performance, and when all the guests finally arrived, our Emcee (SDHH) welcomed the parents and introduced our orchestra! Yik Fung (student conductor) conducted us, and when all the pieces were played, Mr Wong gave a very short speech.

AND THE BBQ BEGAN!!!!!!!!!

There were Bee Hoon prepared by Mr Wong and JinJing's daddy (again!)!!! REAL NICE! Ha Ha. They even BBQ-ed the bee hoon with samba chili. Weird, but true, and yummy!

After BBQ, we played charades! The questions were funny, and the last persons/people's answers were EVEN funnier. Ho Ho! After that we had basketball, and this girl tripped while saving the ball, fell down and became Ming Wei's sister.

Well, that's all for day THREE!!!!
CHECK BACK FOR VIDEOS!!!!!!!!!!=D

Day TWO (10 June 2009)

With baggy eyes, tousled hair, stiff backs, we woke up early and started our day by dragging our feet to do some MORNING EXERCISES. We all went out to the round basketball court at Pasir Ris Park to do some stretches before proceeding to work out at the fitness stations surrounding the court. Then, we ran/jogged/walked round the park once before returning back to the camp. This time, everyone was (obviously) already awake - though I can't say WIDE awake.. Yet! We got our bread and eggs down our bellies and attended a course.

After the course, we played a game which requires the teams to make the toughest "web" to support the smallest group member for 1 minute without dropping him/her or breaking the "web". So obviously it was MIIN WEI and YUAN XIANG, and both groups successfully managed to sustain their weights with the "webs" for 1 minute, although Mini's group asked for more preparation time. Oh wells!

We proceeded to the hall after the web weaving game to play the next game - the balloon stepping game! Each person was given 2 balloons and 2 rafia strings and have to attach them to both legs. IT'S THE BATTLE OF THE SEXES, as both groups try to stomp out all the other team's balloons. BUT, when only a few people were left in the "arena", the game mode was changed to "sudden death". EVERYBODY WAS FREE TO "KILL" EACH OTHER!
Obviously the guys were all too excited, and went on killing their own brothers, but the girls were more loyal - they teamed up anyway and stamped the guys.. and "died" in the process. But it's ok, better than the guys. Ha ha.

Yay! Then we had lunch prepared with loooveee by our dear Stella, Jin Long, See Min and Wei Ni! Thank you for the wonderful Bee Hoon!

After the great lunch, we played WATER BOMB.
We're all split into 2 groups: 天地会 and 斧头帮! The rule was to snatch the other team's flag. Sounds easy? Nope, not quite! If you're hit with a bomb, you'll be thrown into jail (poor thing - kena bombed still need to be jailed) for 1 minute. During that one minute, all you can do is to watch and scream. Nothing else. Ha Ha.

Even after water bomb, we all (literally) SQUEEZED into the male toilet (cause it's the closest) and used up the remaining water bombs by.. Bombing each other in that small space? Ok, so anyway, everyone came out soaking wet and then we cleaned the field.

Then, we had practise. Self practise at first, with Xian Wei as our conductor! Halfway during practise, Yik Fung turned up, and he took over. Halfway through, MR Wong turned up, and we practised the 小小山贝河!

Yeah, after our practise, we waited for DINNER. then it was free time, and everyone played ball. Ha Ha.

Watch out for the upcoming video on Day TWO!!
See you guys =D

CAMP'S JUST ENDED! Fun eh?? Of course! Like what I did last year, I'm gonna disclose stuffs disclosed within these four days three nights! In the forms the camp's stated to be from 9 to 12 June. But, some people went on 8 June to check everything's in place.. And conveniently stayed there for a night. Ha Ha.

Day ONE (9 June 2009)

SO! We set off for Pasir Ris Holiday Camp at 1.25pm from YTCC and reached there at 2.15pm!Whoa, that's like 50 minutes! Ha ha! When we reached there, the "early birds" "welcomed" us and showed us our respective dormitories. SAD to say, the male dormitory have not changed at all! Same shape, same bed arrangements, same size and same colour as the previous music camps. White walls.. Stripey bedsheets.. Long and narrow walkway.. I pity the guys. HOWEVER, the female dormitory just underwent a 360 DEGREE TRANSFORMATION! *ding!*
What used to be a tight, crampy, squeezy, stuffy room is now spacious and well ventilated! The room was BEAUTIFUL!! Plus, the bedsheets are all PINK (good news or bad news?). I think they knocked down the wall linking to a previous storeroom and extended the dorm. Now the dorm's L shaped instead of the original rectangular shape (smaller and worse than the male dorm).

After everyone settled down and the instruments unloaded, Hui Chi briefed us on the 6 big camp rules.
1) No swimming in the sea
2) No leaving campsite after 2300hrs and without permission
3) 男的不可以进女的睡房 vice versa
4) If you want to leave the campsite, an adult is required to accompany you
5) No ball/frisbee games are to be played in the hall
6) Be in-charged of your own belongings.
(After that, some unknown people added 2 more rules:
7) No "eff" word. Understand?
8) Wash the plates and cups you used properly [something along that line])
Zi Xiang and Yuan Xiang's daddy's handphone numbers were written on the board too. Ha Ha. Uncle, becareful of prank calls!

(not gonna explain the game rules here~)

After the briefing, we played Slam the Textbook game!.. With the textbook replaced by a file. At the end of the game, 10 people who remained in the circle had to do a forfeit.. 7 WONDERS! Because there were just nice 5 girls & 5 guys, they were paired up in 'couples'. 7 wonders means they have to like.. put 7 body parts together. Don't think too far. HEAD SIDES, HANDS AND LEGS only. Ha Ha.
Look at the photo slideshow coming up and you'll understand what I mean!

Right after Slam the Textbook game, we played the Cat and Mouse game (I just give it a name). Guan Xian and Victor earned themselves a forfeit, and the forfeit was.. Guan Xian to feed Victor (with water from a mug) BLINDFOLDED. Sadly no water was spilt. Aww!

Then, we played I Guess I'm Famous game. EVERYONE had a chance to play! The player picks a card and let the audiences see. Without looking at it, the player has to guess what's written on the piece of paper (people/cartoon characters that are FAMOUS) by asking ONLY yes/no questions. There were Stefanie Sun, Hellboy,Michael Jackson, Harry Potter, Voldemort, Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup, Pickachu, JJ Lin, Mr Wong, Doreamon and etc.

Whoo hoo!
After the games, we rested for a while while waiting for dinner.

---

I'll post Day 2, 3 & 4 next time! Meanwhile, keep checking back for slideshows, videos and HOT stuffs!

Welcome to Yew Tee Community Club Chinese Orchestra's blogger. Yew Tee Community Club Chinese Orchestra was set up in April 2003, with the support and sponsorship of, then Minister of Transport, Member of Parliament Mr Yeo Cheow Tong. The pioneer group of 25 youth musicians soon grew to become a promising youth Orchestra of 60 young music talents. Under the baton of Mr Endrey Wong, the Yew Tee CC Chinese Orchestra gets together for weekly practices on Saturdays. In the past six years, the group has been a familiar sight at numerous community events. Its annual Community Concerts were always looked forward to and enjoyed by many Yew Tee residents. Bi-annual ticketed public concerts had also sold well. In December 2005, the Yew Tee CC Chinese Orchestra launched its quarterly Recital Series, with the dual aim of training and preparing its soloists for bigger concerts, and bringing Chinese Orchestra music in smaller but more regular doses to the community. This Recital Series is still going strong. The success of the Recital Series prompted the Orchestra to launch its Saturday Afternoon Delights on 3 January 2009. This regular 15-minutes solo or small ensemble performances at the Atrium of the Yew Tee Community Club, before the Orchestra’s weekly practices, have brought much joy to residents attending activities or courses at the CC. Initiated by members themselves, the Yew Tee CC Chinese Orchestra had also started its own Community Involvement Programme in 2005, with performances and interactions at Homes for the Elderly and Senior Activities Centres, including a very meaningful session at the Dover Park Hospice during the Mid-Auntumn Festival in 2008. Invitations for guest-performances such as the Gek Poh Ville 10th Anniversary Concert 17 February 2008, and local music exchange programmes such as the Soka Chinese Music Exchange Concert 2006, had given members of the Yew Tee CC Chinese Orchestra local exposure beyond Yew Tee. In June 2008, the Orchestra held music exchanges with schools in Taiping, Perak and Georgetown, Penang. This learning journey to Malaysia benefited our members in many ways. Although young and inexperienced, the Yew Tee CC Chinese Orchestra had participated in the bi-annual National Chinese Music Competition organised by the National Arts Council, in 2004, 2006 and 2008. Although the group did not win at these competitions, comments from the judges were encouraging. The Yew Tee Community Club Chinese Orchestra had a very active and fulfilling first five years. It has succeeded in bringing traditional Chinese music to the neighbourhood, and helped bring more vibrancy to the community. Amongst the members, sense of commitments and bonds are strong, and morale is high. The challenge now is to nurture members’ commitments and morale, and continually develop and grow this group of young and promising music talents .
